You’ve got questions. I’ve got answers.
If your question isn’t answered here, let me know – I’ll add it to the list!
1. Why Use a Professional Voice Actor for Your Project?
Why would you hire a professional to voice your next project instead of asking your co-worker down the hall? Or why not just use a computer-generated voice? Here are a few reasons.
A. Maintaining Listeners’ Interest
Whether you’re selling a product or training new employees, the last thing you need is for people to lose interest in your message. It’s been said that poorly recorded sound will kill a video more than poor video quality. How much value will a professional production add to your next project?
B. Trained Actor
Voice actors are just that – actors. They know how to interpret a script. Professional voice actor Tony Pasquale has said, “Every script, like a song, has a beat to it. It has lyrical properties. I look lor these beats, the nuances that string together these words, and use that to help me make choices as an actor.”
Plus, we understand that performing in front of a microphone is different from performing on stage or in front of a camera. We specialize in “on-mic performance.”
C. Human Voice
Although computer-based voices have improved with the advent of artificial intelligence and machine learning, both marketers and consumers still prefer the sound of a human voice to that of a synthetic or artificial one. The human voice is more powerful than a robotic voice.
D. High Quality Audio
Sometimes audio for corporate training or a YouTube video is recorded under less-than-ideal circumstances, with background noise and interruptions. Sometimes it’s recorded on low quality equipment. A pro VO talent works from a professional studio, providing high-quality audio.
E. Experience
A professional voice talent offers years of experience with all kinds of copy.
2. How much will this cost?
Rates
Whether you hire a union or a non-union voice actor, you can get a general idea of voiceover (VO) rates using the Global Voice Acting Academy Rate Guide. My exact (non-union) fees vary due to several factors:
- How long is the recording (either in time or words)?
- What’s the intended usage (YouTube, internal corporate training, local radio ad, national TV ad, a telephone on-hold message, etc.)?
- How long will the recording be in use (1-time usage, 3-month ad campaign, full buy-out, etc.)?
- Is the recording part of a series? If so, how many parts are there?
- What’s your deadline?
Pickups & Retakes
The rate I quote includes two (2) rounds of revisions.
- Pickups and retakes due to my error (such as pace, tone, or other part of the performance) are included at no cost.
- Pickups should be sent to me no later than 3 business days after delivery.
- Retakes due to a minor script change or correction will be subject to a retake fee of $40.
- Major revisions due to a significant number of script changes or corrections will be considered a new project and quoted accordingly.
